"Tinnitus" (07/25/2000) Rock & Pop No-No's (The), Animal WorldThe No-No's: Mike Clark (guitar); Ralf Youtz (bass); Dan Heller (drums); Robin Bowser. Knowing that lead singer Heather Dunn went on to be in the Bangs and Dub Narcotic Sound System after her stint in the No-No's can help to understand both the riot grrrl influence and quirky pop influence displayed on Tinnitus. While Dunn didn't play an instrumental part in either act, she handles lead vocal duties here as well as writes all the lyrics. Vocally, she's reminiscent of Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries, with a simple delivery that occasionally hints at a fake accent. There are lots of handclaps and good harmonies on Tinnitus, with a simple pop structure throughout in all the music. There is an occasional change-up here or there in order to keep the listener from becoming too bored, but for the most part, this is full-on pop/rock with female vocals. Nothing new or shocking, and on the flip side, one can be thankful it's not done as horrible as many acts who perform in the genre. ~ Kurt Morris
