  I purchased my Nikon D60 from ritzcamera.com for about $670. That includes the body, 18-55mm VR lens, 55-200mm VR lens, Nikon camera bag, and 2 Nikon instructional DVDs. Tip: if you have the Entertainment coupon book, they give you a 5% discount at ritzcamera.com. Bank of America now also has an Add It Up program that gives you 3%(?) discount if you use your debit card. Unfortunately, ritzcamera.com took almost a month to ship the 18-55mm lens (some issues with their supplier). Nevertheless, I got a great deal. I have been a loyal Sony Mavica/Cybershot customer in the past but going to the dSLR level, I knew I had to go Nikon. And I was right -- there is no graininess when I blew up a pic I took with the D60 (compared to my 2-year old Cybershot). I'm taking a photography class every Tuesday night so I'm learning a lot of things still. The D60 is the perfect camera if you don't know what you're doing. My only gripe is that my pictures don't seem to come out tack sharp at all (at least what I would expect from a dSLR). I have tried tips I got from books and online (use a tripod, turn the VR off, use a remote control, etc) but the pictures seem less than eye-popping. My photography class instructor likes to say it's a "defective user" but I'm not so sure. I'm giving the D60 a B- for now (I'm tough I know). We'll see what develops... ...

Out of the box, you get beautiful skin tones, crisp landscapes and detailed macro shots. - Pros: Great for transition to SLR from point and shoot. Camera was easy to use for all ages and abilities, even for those who only use point and shoot. Younger childen can use with ease.
- Cons: Family fought over who got to take photos on vacation because camera was so easy to use.

  Great camera to choose for those moving from point and shoot to SLR. I could not see that much difference from Nikon costing 4x the price and this one especially on auto-mode. Menu is as easy to use as basic camera, not difficult at all. Entire family including 2 children could use with little explanation, teenager was able to take incredible shots of people. We took over 3000 pictures on the first use, a vacation to Cambodia and Thailand. I put the camera/lens together in the airport between flights. Well worth the money.   The camera is very impressive: small and light enough to take it everywhere, with all the "pros" of SLR quality. The VR lenses are a "must-have" equipment, especially if you prefer not to use flash. Programs for specific kind of photos are nicely programed. There are two "cons" - it would be more intuitive (especially in menu and settings) and it should have more points to check the sharpness of picture (Canons have 9). Quality/price is also in good proportions. :)...
