Best camera available.
by averageguy, Apr. 8, 2009 - Pros: It takes great pictures. I love having the ability to take photos where my subject is in focus and the background is not.
- Cons: Sometimes the autofocus doesn't work as good as I would like it to.
- Comments:
The D40 takes great pictures and is more compact and less expensive than other SLR cameras. Don't be misled by all the hype over megapixels, this camera has all you need. In fact, I generally don't even use the highest setting and the photos look great. You can make things as complicated as you want and control each and every setting or you can keep it simple and just use one of the pre-programmed modes. Either way, you'll be happy with the pictures. I needed this camera because my point-and-shoot camera wasn't fast enough to capture my four month old daughter. Now I wish I hadn't waited so long to get it. People ask my wife if we had a professional photographer take our pictures, when in fact she did without even reading the manual (she only uses the pre-programmed modes). This camera is very simple to use and it gives you photos only an SLR can. ...

Grrreat bang for the buck
by shakap, Jul. 21, 2008 - Pros: This entry level SLR is amazing for the amount you pay for.
- Cons: cons? for the money you pay, no cons. I would like to have a more versatile kit lens, for a higher zoom
- Comments:
This is the first SLR I've owned - I love the natural click sound of the shutter, I love the rubberised grip, I love the Nikon tag, I just lllove the battery life - amazing - I once shot more than 900 shots without a recharge. And the shutter lag is bare minimum - just went to the Brooklyn bridge this independence day for fireworks - and this camera gave me 250 odd pics in 7 minutes. Of course the joy of owning a dSLR is in the freedom u get on exposure and aperture - i've learnt hw to use those to my advantage to produce pictures u can't produce anyhow with your point and shoot with editing on computer. And the joy of shooting in the dark - amazing good pictures in low light in the night mode. This camera has got everything - buy it in case you dont already have a higher end dSLR. You wont ever regret this deal. And for those of you who think all digital cameras have live view on LCD, don't be shocked after this purchase - many dSLRs don't have live view - and its not much needed. ...

I bought this camera to take pictures of my newborn daughter on the advice of a friend. What a great idea! A <br>digital SLR (especially this one) doesn't have the wait time that other digital cameras have. Take out the <br>camera, point and shoot...

Nikon D40 SLR
by Ben Long - Pros: Helpful features for novices Small and lightweight
- Cons: Lacks depth-of-field preview
- Comments:
A few years ago, $1000 was a critical price barrier for digital SLRs. Now, as interest in SLRs has grown among casual photographers, vendors have been racing to produce a $500 model. Though no camera has reachede that goal yet, Nikon's new D40 comes close... - Read full review at pcworld.com

Nikon D40 Digital SLR Camera Review
by Alex Burack - Comments:
Nikon's 6.1-megapixel D40 sprung into the market near the end of 2006, just in time for shopping season. With an impressive $599 price tag that includes a generic 18-55mm kit lens, the camera's entry price is perhaps its most revolutionary element. With a... - Read full review at reviewed.com
