    • Product Rating: 3 star(s) Not what I expected
      by threeblindmice, May. 15, 2008
    • Pros: I'm still not sure I have discovered any yet other than being "friendly" to the geocaching.com website.
    • Cons: No more accurate or sensitive than the cheap Magellen even though the new chip was supposed to be much better.
    • Comments:
I was really looking forward to the new technology and more sensitive receiver chip in this device. Ratings from other readers and description from Garmin led me to believe it would be much more sensitive reception in tree canopy, canyons, etc. Compared to the Magellen explorist 500 I have been using for about 1 year it is no better, costs alot more and was pretty much a real let down from what I was expecting. So far the only advantage I have seen is that geocaching.com likes the garmin devices and makes it easier to download caches to the garmin than it does the magellen. ...

    • Pros: LOTS of bells & whistles. Accurate
    • Cons: Steep learning curve, doesn't like NiMH batteries.

    • Product Rating: 5 star(s) get it, you will not be disapointed
      by dakotasrose, Apr. 28, 2006
    • Pros: Highly accurate, loads of bells and whistles
    • Cons: no way to determine SD memory used (that I have found)
    • Has Owned Product: 5 days
    • Comments:
I can't say enough about this unit. Very accurate - I was able to get 4 foot accuracy in the averaging mode WITHOUT the WAAS turned on. The SiRF chip is also amazing. I was able to get reception on the first floor of a 2-story concrete building, in a...

    • Product Rating: 3 star(s) Garmin GPSMAP 76
      by James Hutchinson
    • Pros: Inexpensive, external antenna connection
    • Cons: Limited memory, slow performance, no direct USB connectivity, no electronic compass
    • Comments:
Though a relatively cheap price point is sure to entice, several gaps in functionality make the GPSMAP 76 somewhat undesirable. It is functional if PC connectivity isn't paramount, but for the most part it's worth paying more for the extra features. ...
