Shopzilla Showcases Technological Innovations with Establishment of zLabs

--Shopzilla invests in R&D to advance comparison shopping search technology--

Los Angeles, CA, June 22, 2005 - Shopzilla, the most powerful comparison shopping search site on the Web, today announced the establishment of zLabs (http://zlabs.shopzilla.com), a separate site which will showcase the company's latest technological innovations aimed at improving shopping on the web. With the introduction of zLabs, Shopzilla joins an elite handful of Internet companies who are devoted enough to true research and development to warrant having a dedicated website.

By releasing its new technologies in an open web site environment, Shopzilla hopes for feedback from interested visitors, technologists and scientists to help improve its new technologies before graduating them to an official launch stage. "Feedback early in the development cycle is instrumental to building the best solutions. We look forward to hearing what our early adopters say and to working with the brightest engineering and scientific minds in the industry to tackle challenging technical issues we face," said Henri Asseily, chief technology officer of Shopzilla.

The first research project to be featured within zLabs is Robozilla (http://robozilla.shopzilla.com), a fully functioning version of Shopzilla wherein all the clustering and alignment of products, prices, availability and images from various merchants is done in a completely automated way. "Robozilla represents a major break-through in automated data structuring, organization and presentation," said Farhad Mohit, chief product officer of Shopzilla. "With it we are, automatically and in a few hours, creating product catalogs for millions of merchant offers in categories, which have thus far been either impossible to organize or would require a tremendous amount of manual labor and tens of thousands of man-hours."

Categories such as luggage, women's shoes and toys are examples of product areas that Robozilla has automated the cataloguing process so that its consumers will benefit from a superior comparison shopping search experience.

With a minimal number of employees dedicated to overseeing the structuring and organizing the over 31 million products in its index, Shopzilla is already leading the industry in efficiency. "However, that is not nearly good enough," says Mohit, "Manual operations don't scale well; great technology does. We still have a long way to go before every product in the world is stored, catalogued and structured perfectly on Shopzilla, and for that we need break-through technologies like Robozilla and beyond to best leverage our lean operations. With zLabs we are putting the focus on technology and R&D, and inviting collaboration with the best scientists and technologists out in the field. We're excited to get the dialogue going and to see what develops."
