Packs a professional punch for an amateur price
by lizardlips, Jan. 23, 2009 - Pros: Easy to use, nice features for the price.
- Cons: Not as much zoom as I'm used to, still high noise in low light situations.
- Comments:
I upgraded from a fuji finepix to this camera and the only thing I gave up was some zoom. It has tons of features and takes beautiful, professional pics. It was a super buy and very worth the price. ...

This point-and-shoot outshines some D-SLRs!
by Nekomia, Sep. 20, 2008 - Pros: small, lightweight, outstanding quality
- Cons: doesn't make dinner
- Comments:
This camera is really easy to use. I rarely ever take it off of auto, but when I do, its still beginner-friendly. The live viewfinder is a great help in this regard, as it changes what you see as you change the settings. What you see on the screen is exactly how the picture will turn out. The photo quality is also outstanding. My husband is a serious amateur with dreams of going pro, and constantly says how he's jealous that my point-and-shoot is better than his D-SLR. He uses it when we travel and loves how easy to use it is. Though I paid more for it than I originally wanted to, I feel as though I got my money's worth and am incredibly happy with the camera. ...

Canon G9 is the new P&S king
by thej, Jul. 8, 2008 - Pros: small and light with great quality. external hot shoe
- Cons: LCD does not "bend" sideways or up/down
- Comments:
Canon G9 is a great all around Point and Shoot. I love the controls, the IS, the external hot shoe. I only wish the LCD would be movable...

Amazing Camera; Quality Program Modes, Great Manual options
by VeryBadMan, Jun. 23, 2008 - Pros: Great build quality (has heft to it), RAW capability, face detection technology
- Cons: Only cons I can speak of was the need to put a better gripping surface for your hand.
- Comments:
I have been amazed with the quality pictures that this G9 Camera produces. I was looking for a smaller point & shoot style camera with ability to set settings manually. This seems to be just the ticket. I wanted a smaller, less intimidating, more acceptable camera. Something that doesn't scream "PROFESSIONAL CAMERA HERE" and get you kicked out of venues where DSLR's are taboo This camera is amazing; and definitely Pro user friendly& 12 mega pixels!!! Plus it even shoots RAW; which I have to start muddling through & learn..... FANTASTIC Camera!!!!! ...

Great, reliable camera!
by tsavoie, May. 28, 2008 - Pros: Takes great pictures, reliable, quick startup.
- Cons: Can get lost in some of the settings menus.
- Comments:
Overall a good reliable camera. I have taken it on several vacations so far and have enjoyed using it very much. For the most part I have used the G9 as a basic Point and shoot camera with the exception of a couple of situations. When needed I was able to manipulate the settings to achieve the correct photographic exposures. ...

Canon G8- Outstanding camera combining great flexibility with compactness
by grm3, May. 12, 2008 - Pros: Great versitility, Excelent IS feature, Very powerful lens.
- Cons: Would like to see the lens with a bit more wider angle.
- Comments:
Great camera. The review feature is excellent. Shutter response is very quick. IS is the best I have ever used. The preprogramed scene set ups are great. Could use a wider wide angle lense but an attachment is available. ...

Fills a void
by Al M., May. 9, 2008 - Pros: Great picture quality packed with features in a small camera body.
- Cons: Compared to my Canon 10D the responsiveness is slow.
- Comments:
The Powershot G9 fits a void I had in my cameras. Much better features (especially image stabilization) than my smaller Canon SD1000 and much smaller than my Canon D10. The features approach an SLR, but a bit slower in responsiveness tha I would have liked. Overall, it is well worth the price. ...

Best Point & Shoot Ever
by photofan, May. 8, 2008 - Pros: Superb construction quality; great to superb picture quality (not in poor lighting conditions)
- Cons: Wide angle not wide enough; lens not as good as the one in G6; slow flash response
- Comments:
Bought this camera as a replacment for the first one, which I dropped and destroyed while on vacation. I couldn't wait to replace it, since I enjoyed that camera so much before the mishap. It is so inconspicuous compared with a DSLR while providing picture quality that compares very favourably with that of the DSLR most of the time. It is definitely the ideal camera for travel, as I found out that not having to carry and worry about a heavy camera has a liberating effect In short, it's a real winner. ...

Top of the line non-SLR
by bezoar, May. 8, 2008 - Pros: Solid build, high quality images, and ease of use. Relatively high quality videos has been a surprise.
- Cons: Would prefer a greater optical zoom, but still versatile.
- Comments:
I was looking for a compact camera, but didn't want to compromise on quality of image or build. I know what a Canon Digital SLRs and L-lenses are capable of doing, but I really wanted something that could easily fit in my bag or pocket. I found the G9, and after reading that some professional photographers were using it for a backup to their SLR, I decided to give it try. I've not been disappointed. I've never needed to read the manual, however it does a lot more than I know about. My wife has found it easy to use. The photos are great. The video feature is has been a pleasant surprise, and might be my favorite feature since we don't have a camcorder. I'm glad I got a second battery, though, as it's come in handy. ...
