Go for LCD and save the space on your desk. They've become widely available and very affordable. So affordable you can even get two! LCDs may be flatter, but color and brightness are often inconsistent from the top to the bottom of the screen. Get a Flat-screen CRT (tube) for the best printing results. You get more on your screen with a higher resolution, but you can get bigger text at high resolutions with bigger monitors. Buy the biggest monitor you can afford.
