Using RSS

What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It's a free tool for sharing and distributing content from numerous websites. RSS allows you to easily receive news headlines, as well as blogs (weblogs) and podcasts for your iPod. The content you receive via RSS is called a feed.

At Shopzilla, we use RSS to let you know about great deals and popular products in categories throughout our website. This page lists the RSS feeds we currently offer.

Getting Started with RSS

To use RSS, you'll need access to a RSS Reader. There are web-based readers like My Yahoo!! and the personalized Google home page. Or download a RSS Reader like Attensa which plugs into Outlook. If you use a Mac with Safari, there is a RSS Reader already built in to your browser.

You will need to subscribe to a feed in order to receive RSS content. If you already receive feeds or other content for the Google personalized home page or My Yahoo!, we've provided easy links for you to subscribe to Shopzilla's RSS.

If you have installed a downloadable RSS reader, you'll need to follow these instructions:

  1. Click the XML button for the feed you are interested in
  2. Copy (CTRL-C) the URL (the website address near the top of your window, it should start with this text, http://www.shopzilla.com/rss/
  3. Paste (CTRL-V) the URL into your application and follow its subscription procedure

If you're using Safari, you can follow these instructions:

  1. Click the XML button for the feed you are interested in
  2. Choose "Bookmarks" from the menu at the top of your screen, then choose "Add Bookmark"
  3. You'll find all of your RSS feeds in one Bookmark Collection
